Glenda Nativo (Piano Instructor) - Glenda began studying piano in 1976, and at the age of 11 began participating in solo piano competitions. At the age of 16, she had won several university scholarships, and entered as a freshman a year later as a piano performance major. Combining work study in the music department with her academic program, she taught music theory classes on campus.
Glenda has been active as a church musician since childhood, and has held several positions as music director, principal organist, and principal pianist. She began playing for weddings at the age of 14, and has been actively sought as a contract musician for memorial services, special events, and studio recordings. Her private studio practice began in 1991, and her proprietary program of study incorporates various accepted methods of piano pedagogy and standard piano repertoire. Her emphasis is classical, but she teaches all styles of music. Glenda offers a balanced curriculum of fundamental/foundational studies, musicianship, technique, ear training, sight reading, music theory, rhythmic studies, and improvisation.
Through a broad use of method books, students are challenged to work on multiple facets of musicality such as dexterity, performance, interpretation and expression, thereby establishing a thorough musical foundation of proficiency on the piano. Younger students are offered incentive-based learning, encouraging them to develop their musical skills with gradient achievement awards. Glenda holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and Master of Arts in Music History and Literature. She anticipates the pursuit of doctoral studies in 2010.
